Harold and the Purple Crayon (2025)
The film follows Harold, who has grown up but still owns his magical purple crayon a crayon that brings anything he draws to life.
One day, the story’s narrator (the “old man”) disappears, and Harold decides to look for him. With his drawn-to-life animal friends, Moose and Porcupine, Harold draws a doorway into the real world, believing the narrator might be his father.
In the real world, Harold and Moose are shocked to see how different life is compared to the storybook world. They meet Terry, a mother, and her curious daughter Mel, who joins Harold in his quest. Harold even gives Mel a small piece of the magical crayon.
During their journey, they encounter Gary, a librarian and aspiring fantasy novelist. When Gary discovers the crayon’s power, he becomes obsessed and plans to use it for his own benefit to create a fantasy world and influence reality.
A magical conflict unfolds as Harold, Mel, and the animal companions confront Gary’s growing desire for control. Through creativity, teamwork, and courage, they manage to restore balance, learning important lessons about imagination, friendship, and responsibility.
The movie blends live-action and animated/drawn magic, offering humor, adventure, emotional moments, and themes that appeal to both children and families. It highlights the power of creativity showing that imagination can build worlds, but must be used wisely.
